 NSAI Celebrates Signing Of Music Copyright Infringement Bill

Gov. Phil Bredesen recently signed Senate Bill 3974, which requires Tennessee's public and private universities and colleges to take steps to ensure that computers on their campuses are not used to disseminate or download copyrighted material through peer-to-peer file sharing programs. The legislation also requires these higher education institutions to develop and enforce a policy for computer usage, network usage and ethics, in addition to analyzing the network to determine if copyrighted works are being transmitted.  For more on the signing, click the headline above.

MAJOR MUSIC INDUSTRY GROUPS ANNOUNCE BREAKTHROUGH AGREEMENT

In a breakthrough that will facilitate new ways to offer music to consumers online, the Digital Media Association (DiMA), the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), together with the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and the Songwriters Guild of America (SGA), announced an agreement Sept. 23 on how music creators will be compensated for music distributed through certain online models.  Click the headline above for more.
